Welcome to B2FMaths@Home. On this page you will find everything you need to successfully teach maths to your own children at home, for as long as school closures from the virus pandemic last. Lessons are drawn from the Back to Front Maths resources, used by schools around Australia and shown by peer-reviewed research to be highly effective in helping kids learn and retain concepts in mathematics.

Week 1: Length

This week we will be teaching students the concept of length. The resources are below. Please also watch the video that follows as it gives you important information.

Week 3: Arrays and Multiplication

Making the 4x facts with Lego

This week we will be teaching students the concept of multiplication. We are particularly focusing on developing a concept called “arrays”. This basically looks like the top of Lego blocks, or a grid.

Are you looking for more for your kids to do? These puzzle books are lots of fun and also develop great reasoning skills for algebra.

Week 4: Arrays and Division

This week we will be teaching students the concept of division or sharing. Resources will be added as they are ready.

This week we will be teaching students from F-3 the concept of time, while students from years 4-7 learn about area.

Week 6: Volume and Capacity

This week we will be teaching students about volume and capacity. These concepts build on from previous learning about arrays in weeks 3-5.

Week 7: Fractions

This week we will be teaching students about fractions. Resources will be added as they are ready. Please note, fractions is a particularly difficult concept for children to understand. If your child is in year 4 or above and you are concerned, consider downloading this Fractions diagnostic test and then giving a completed copy to your child’s teacher.

Week 8: Fractions and Chance

This week we will be teaching students about Fractions and Chance. Resources will be added as they are ready.
