Number tasks placemat and ideas

Beneath you will find a great resource that can be used for many tasks from number, algebra and measurement. Instructions are downloadable, but tasks are also described beneath each image.

Download these:

Grid:

  • Squares for grid paper for normal operations (calculations etc)
  • Table
  • Axes for graphing and functions
  • Hundreds, Tens and Ones chart
  • Drawing areas/arrays
  • Choose numbers on the sides for an instant multiplication grid

Circle:

  • Partitioning games (it represents the bowl or cup hiding some counters)
  • Clocks,
  • Angles,
  • Pie charts and percentage

Randomly connected squares

  • Parts of a hundreds chart. Give a student one number and they work out the rest.

Tens frame

  • Big enough to use with 10c coins as counters or any other counter
  • Draw in amounts, how much more to make 10?
  • Use as a skip counting frame.

4 rectangles, with a central part:

  • Number of the day: write in words, write as an operation…
  • Fraction of the day: write 4 different equations/drawings etc. (e.g. 1/5 = 20% = 0.2…)
  • Similarities and differences
  • Find 4 things that…

Blank number line:

  • Put numbers at start and finish, locate mid-point
  • 1-1000, place on any number
  • 0-1
  • 0-2
  • Negatives
  • Use for addition/subtraction/skip counting
