This workbook is suitable for Year 5 classes
and also for multistage 4/5 classes.
It meets requirements for AC9.0, as well as the new WA and SA curriculum.
Sections:
- Revision of number (11 pages)
- Number: place value, operations and fractions (77 pages, 55 lessons)
- Algebra, money and modelling (13 pages, including a mathematical modelling task on developing a recipe book as a class)
- Measurement: length, mass, capacity, temperature, angles and time (19 pages)
- Space: geometry, maps, plans and directions (15 pages)
- Probability and statistics (24 pages)
- Interleaved and spaced practise sets (30 pages)
- Operations practise (6 pages for skills development)
Each section contains a list of skills that are at-standard for each of the year levels, as well as above-standard skills. Skills are given a code, and the same code is found on the lessons.
Lessons are classified as: experiment, explore, explain, practice, or extend as appropriate to indicate the type of thinking expected. Simple teacher instructions are included at the top of tasks as appropriate, to make it simple to use.
Suggested work program or sequence:
- Each week aim to use 3 lessons for content teaching, spend 1 lesson on interleaved and spaced practice, then allow 1 flexible lesson to adapt for what your students need (e.g., more time to develop skills, use extension tasks, or review other areas).
- An extra week is allocated each term for flexible teaching, as well as 3 additional weeks at the end of term 4 to complete any work that was missed.
