Back to Front Maths Foundations for High School

This book is designed to cover essential content from years 3-7 for Number, Measurement and Algebra. It is not designed to cover the whole curriculum, but instead to help students catch up who are working multiple years behind so that they are ready for year 8 content. It incorporates lessons on experimenting, developing fluency, and deducing patterns as well as lessons each week for interleaved and spaced retrieval and additional extension.

The book is 227 pages long and includes:

• 75 lessons, arranged in sets of 3, in a developmental sequence. This should take approximately 25 weeks to complete. Each lesson takes approx 30-40 minutes, to allow additional practise time as needed. Extension questions are built into most lessons.
• Each week there is a set of interleaved and spaced practise questions to build skills.
• Each week there is an additional extension task, which students can complete independently at any time if they find the other lessons too easy. These lessons are designed for self-teaching (or partner work), and include additional topics (e.g., rates and ratio, place value in electricity, area of triangles, parallelograms and trapeziums) as well as more complex problems to extend the topic for the week, and even mathematical modelling tasks. The idea is that they provide standard year 7 content plus opportunities for more problem-solving and reasoning.
• There are additional interleaved question sets at the back (14 sets), as well as extra operations practise (4 pages).
