Leaders, how do we moderate grading, report to parents, and triangulate data across the whole school? This course will give your teachers both the understanding – and the tools – to make sense of grading right now.
Course Details
Tuesday, 8th September at North Harrisdale Primary School – Date TBC, but will run in the week of 7-11 September
Registration commences at 7:45 for Leaders and Teachers
Teacher Session: 8:00-3:00
Leaders Session: 8:00-4:15
Cost includes all materials plus catering:

- $1995 – School Package (3 teachers + 1 leader). Extra teachers can be added for $250 each
Course Outline
Session 1: 8:00-10:30 Fluency and Understanding A-E
- Unpacking the achievement standards and content descriptors to understand the difference between “at” and “above” standard.
- Auditing and adapting our existing fluency and understanding assessment items for A-E standards.
- Designing tests and checklists for our students.
- Teachers take away for your year level: a term of assessment items for Number and Measurement plus A-E assessment criteria for the whole year.
Session 2: 11:00-1:00 Problem Solving and Reasoning A-E
- Unpacking Reasoning and Problem Solving to understand A-E judgements.
- Calibration of our grading using samples from real students.
- Designing problems, practical tasks and moderation tasks for our students.
- Teachers take away for your year level: two moderation tasks, two sample problems, plus A-E assessment criteria for problem solving and reasoning.
Session 3: 1:30-3:00 Designing investigations and modelling tasks A-E
- How to create real-world mathematical tasks and investigations for your class in about 10 minutes.
- Adaptable criteria for mathematical modelling and investigations.
- Teachers take away for your year level: a modelling task or investigation complete with assessment criteria, plus a process to design tasks quickly.
Leaders session from 3:15-4:15 – plus an extra online data analysis session with Tierney
- Moderation procedures plus tasks for your whole school
- Report cards comments for your whole school
- Triangulating your whole school PAT, NAPLAN and in-class grading results
- An hour-long online session per school with Tierney to examine your PAT and NAPLAN data and plan for improvement.

A full term of assessment items with criteria for PP-6, A-E criteria for on-balance judgements for PP-8, a full set of moderation tasks for PP-8 including for multiage classes, modelling tasks, investigations and adaptable criteria for any year level, reporting comments, and all training materials to use with your own staff.
