This one-day workshop shows teachers how to teach place value concepts so they stick and address misconceptions along the way.
The workshop provides real answers to some of the most challenging parts of teaching, backed up by improvement data from both PATM and NAPLAN, and through a live demonstration lesson with real students.
Participants deconstruct student understanding in Quantity, Partitioning, Relative Size and Proportional Reasoning, focusing on connecting ideas using number lines, hundreds charts, square tiles and place value charts; identifying underlying misconceptions and developmental sequencing. Place value concepts, from understanding single-digit numbers through to decimal numbers, will be covered in depth. Participants will take away three manuals containing diagnostics and lessons designed to address misconceptions in key number concepts of their choice, as well as games and activity suggestions for regular practise.
Please note: while this course is aimed at primary-school concepts, high school teachers with struggling students will find it enormously beneficial.
