Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum means big changes for SA teachers.
This professional learning day will not only teach you what you need to know about the changes, it will also provide a clear summary, a simple implementation plan, resources to train your staff, assessment criteria to make marking easier, and a bank of tasks to use in term 1. You will spend time designing modelling tasks and statistical investigations, as well as understanding the new terminology, and plan for getting started on the student free days.
Session 1: Unpacking the requirements for each year level
- Major changes in content for each year level at a glance: focus on place value (F-3) and statistics (4-8).
- Major changes in proficiencies, and what this means for teaching.
- Major changes in the achievement standard, along with A-E assessment criteria for your staff.
Session 2: Modelling tasks, statistical investigations, algorithms for number and probability experiments
- Understand the new mathematical processes: modelling, statistical investigations, algorithmic thinking and probability experiments. Unpack what they mean, how to teach them and the implications for assessment.
- Design tasks using an efficient process, adaptable for all year levels.
- Receive a bank of ready-made tasks for each process listed above to adapt for your class.
Session 3: Sequencing learning and implementing the changes across the year
- Connecting concepts to increase efficiency of teaching and retention of learning each term.
- Bridging the gap to the new requirements in 2025.
- Simple implementation strategies and how to get started.
- Resources for leading your team: including slide shows to use for student free days, summary documents, tasks to run and information to help.
