Time-saving solutions for rotation groups

Balancing time in rotation groups can be especially tricky:  we need enough time to be able to work in depth with a small group, but not so much that behaviour management becomes a problem as kids get bored.

The Back-to-Front Maths authors created a really simple system for rotation groups that frees up a 20 minute block of your time to work with a particular group of students, while engaging the rest of the students in simple 5-minute rotational games that build their fluency.  In this short video, Tierney explains how to run running fantastic rotation groups.

We have also created a whole bunch of suitable activities to use in these rotation groups.  You can read about Tierney’s 10 favourite activities here and if you are a website subscriber you can click here to check out all the downloadable fluency activities, or scroll to the bottom of the page to download just the ones from the video.  You can also save yourself even more time by buying the games directly.
